Not only did I get to design the lights for both Once Upon a Mattress and Footloose but I also got to show high school students how to work the board. While working at these amazing companies over the past 5 years I have run lights and sound for over 23 productions, nearly 2500 performances, as well as designed lights for over 200 concerts. I’m very happy to be employed at the Gaslight Theatre and am working towards furthering my education at the University of Arizona. My focus is primarily on the contract furniture market, which means I’m knee deep into everything from systems to casegoods, tables and seating. I say “family” and not “staff” because being a part of this crew has taught me what it’s like to have a theatre family. Being a part of a team and collaborating with a group of people to evoke an emotional response from an audience is what drives me. Once I have the germ of something in that sketch, I immediately take it into Shark and scale it up so I’m working with real dimensions. I want to be a part of that and continue to change, learn, and find my light and I know the University of Arizona is the school to help me do just that. At it’s essence, design is an optimistic act, and so with all of the turmoil in the world I think we as designers need to remember that we have a unique set of skills to adapt and shape things for the better.
