I took the advice of other reviews and wore pants. This trail is pretty rough still in 2017 the sign shown here is no longer there just so you don't get confused this trail is listed as echo basin in the sweet home ranger district trail guide. 8 year old and 13 year old were did great. Although the trail needs love-uneven boardwalks, holes, overgrowth, etc., it is a gorgeous area. It then jumped Oregon Highway 18 and skipped up the steep hill into the Highland Heights residential area, which is filled with bigger homes and lots of trees and thick underbrush. Someone has cut down the brush on about 3/4 of this trail.

Centers to distribute donated goods have been set up in Lincoln City and Rose Lodge. There is a lot of overgrowth on this trail- waist deep for about half the trail. Park here before the road narrows and gets grassy. absolutely beautiful, halfway through the loop it does get pretty muddy for a bit but the views were worth all of it and my 4 year old did amazing! If you are sure footed and a slip wouldn’t be disastrous, it is worth doing.

Fire officials don’t yet know, or won’t yet say, what caused it. But there was some pretty areas of short grass and scattered wetlands from multiple little (maybe a foot or two wide at most) streams trickling down the mountain thru the meadow.
